Corey Dewayne Smith, a distinguished United States Army JAG Corps veteran, is renowned for his dynamic leadership and dedication to criminal defense social work. During his military service, Corey provided critical legal support to military attorneys and managed complex military legal matters, including military justice and detainee operations. During deployments during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, he was a liaison for the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Central Criminal Court of Iraq, and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. These experiences, which included conducting comprehensive legal research and assisting in preparing court-martial cases, solidified his leadership skills.
Transitioning from his military career, Corey became a Criminal Defense paralegal, underscoring his commitment to social work and professional development. His profound understanding of the intersection between social work and criminal defense led him to specialize in leadership training, where he effectively integrated these principles with diversity, equity, and inclusion into curriculum development. Corey's extensive knowledge gives him a unique perspective on the challenges veterans and their families face, driving his passion for serving this community through volunteer work with various organizations supporting veterans.
